What is pownum
Remember the last time you had a problem with your bank, mobile phone provider, train company or even a Government Department? What about when an organisation did something that exceeded all of your expectations? Whether its sheer frustration or absolute delight, wouldn't it be good to let such organisations know how you feel? Whether we want to express our feelings on organisations' attitudes towards customer service, the environment, their employees or society in general, the harsh truth is we are powerless to be heard.
We, the public, are disorganised and divided and it's very easy to dismiss singular voices. But what if we could join together to express our opinions?
Power in numbers
That's where pownum comes in. The name 'pownum' is derived from 'power in numbers'. pownum enables the public to rate organisations and by so doing generate an overall number - the pownum rating - based on everyone's opinion. When organisations see their pownum rating in public they will be forced to act. The best organisations will be publicly commended and we think that's a good thing.
There are thousands of organisations on pownum. When you search for an organisation you will be taken to a page dedicated specifically to them. It will show their rating, the trend in their rating over time, the latest ratings as well as comments. There is also the ability to compare organisations against others.
Right of reply
You'll also see something called the 'Right of Reply'. We believe it's fair that organisations have the opportunity to respond to opinion and the Right of Reply lets them do just that. They can demonstrate to everyone that they're listening and how they're changing, as well as responding to individual ratings. Those organisations that care what people think will sign up for the Right of Reply and we ask them to pay a fee (dependent on the size of the organisation) to do so.
